Accessibility Statement
Last updated: October 4, 2026
1. Our Commitment
Pacific Bone & Joint is committed to making our websites and digital resources accessible and usable for as many people as possible, including individuals who use assistive technologies or who have visual, hearing, mobility, cognitive, or other disabilities.
Many people visiting our websites are dealing with pain, injury, limited mobility, or a new diagnosis. Others may be helping a family member make an important healthcare decision.
Making our information understandable and accessible is an important part of providing patient-centered care.
2. Accessibility Standards
Pacific Bone & Joint works toward accessibility practices consistent with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) developed by the World Wide Web Consortium.
Our goal is to improve our websites toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards where reasonably possible.
Accessibility is an ongoing process rather than a one-time project.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, Pacific Bone & Joint does not represent that every page, document, video, embedded feature, or third-party service currently conforms fully with WCAG Level AA.
3. Accessibility Features
Depending on the website and page, accessibility-related features may include:
- text that can be enlarged using browser or operating-system controls;
- responsive layouts that adapt to different screen sizes;
- keyboard-accessible navigation;
- descriptive page titles and headings;
- logical heading structures;
- descriptive links rather than links labeled only "click here";
- alternative text for meaningful images;
- visible labels for form fields;
- error messages that do not rely only on color;
- sufficient contrast between text and backgrounds;
- captions or transcripts for selected video content;
- compatibility with common screen-reader technologies; and
- the ability to navigate most website content without using a mouse.
We continue to improve these features as our websites and educational content evolve.
4. Keyboard Navigation
We endeavor to make important website functions usable with a keyboard.
Users should generally be able to:
- move through links and controls using the Tab key;
- activate links and buttons using standard keyboard commands;
- access important navigation elements without a mouse; and
- identify which interactive element currently has keyboard focus.
If you encounter an element that cannot reasonably be accessed by keyboard, please contact us so we can investigate it and provide an alternative way to obtain the information or complete the task.
5. Screen Readers and Page Structure
Our goal is to structure webpages so that commonly used screen readers and other assistive technologies can interpret the content effectively.
We endeavor to use:
- meaningful headings;
- appropriate page structure;
- descriptive links;
- labels for form fields;
- alternative text for relevant images; and
- text-based explanations when important information would otherwise be available only visually.
Because our websites contain a large amount of orthopedic educational material, including imaging studies, anatomical diagrams, surgical illustrations, and videos, not every piece of visual information may currently have a complete equivalent text description.
If you need help interpreting a particular image or resource, please contact us.
6. Images, X-Rays, MRI, and Medical Illustrations
Pacific Bone & Joint websites may contain:
- X-rays;
- MRI or CT images;
- ultrasound images;
- surgical photographs;
- anatomical illustrations;
- before-and-after images;
- diagrams;
- charts; and
- other clinical images.
We endeavor to provide alternative text or surrounding explanatory content when an image communicates information important to understanding the webpage.
Some medical images, however, contain complex information that cannot reasonably be communicated through a short alternative-text description.
If an image is important to information you need and you cannot access or interpret it, please contact our office and we will make reasonable efforts to explain the information in another format.
7. Videos and Multimedia
Our websites may include educational videos, patient education, demonstrations, interviews, animations, or videos hosted through third-party platforms.
Where practical, we endeavor to provide captions or use video services that support captioning.
Some older or third-party videos may rely on automatically generated captions. Automatic captions may contain errors, particularly with medical terminology, medication names, surgical terminology, and physician names.
We are continually working to improve the accessibility of video content.
If you need information from a video in another format, please contact us.
8. Forms and Appointment Requests
We endeavor to make website forms understandable and usable with assistive technologies.
This may include:
- visible field labels;
- instructions presented in text;
- keyboard-accessible controls;
- understandable error messages; and
- avoiding the use of color as the only way to communicate required information or errors.
However, patients are not required to use our website to become a patient or request care.
If an online appointment request, contact form, intake form, or other website feature is difficult for you to use, please contact our office by telephone and our staff can assist you.
9. PDFs and Downloadable Documents
Some educational materials, forms, brochures, research articles, or other documents available through our websites may be provided as PDF files.
Some older PDFs or documents created by third parties may not be fully tagged or optimized for screen readers.
If you have difficulty accessing a PDF or downloadable document, please contact Pacific Bone & Joint.
We will make reasonable efforts to:
- provide the information in another format;
- provide a text-based version;
- explain the information by telephone;
- assist you during an appointment; or
- otherwise provide reasonable access to the information.
10. Third-Party Services
Some functions on Pacific Bone & Joint websites may be provided by third parties.
These may include:
- appointment scheduling systems;
- patient communication platforms;
- patient portals;
- mapping and directions services;
- video-hosting services;
- online reviews;
- financing platforms;
- insurance resources;
- social-media services; and
- other externally hosted tools.
We do not control the accessibility of every third-party website, application, or embedded service.
If a third-party service creates an accessibility barrier, please contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to provide the information or service through another method.
11. Known Limitations
Although we continue to improve website accessibility, some limitations may remain.
Potential limitations may include:
Older Website Content
Older articles or educational pages may contain images without ideal alternative text or may use formatting created before our current accessibility practices were adopted.
Complex Medical Images
X-rays, MRI images, ultrasound images, anatomical illustrations, surgical diagrams, and other clinical images can be difficult to fully describe through alternative text alone.
Videos
Some videos may rely on automatically generated captions that have not been manually reviewed.
PDF Documents
Some PDFs, especially documents produced by external organizations, may not be fully compatible with screen readers.
Third-Party Content
Embedded content and externally hosted services are controlled by their respective providers and may not conform to the same accessibility standards as our own website.
Newly Published Content
Occasionally, new content may be published before every accessibility feature has been fully reviewed.
We continue to identify and correct these issues as part of ongoing website development.
12. Accessibility Is Part of Our Website Development
Accessibility considerations are incorporated into the continuing development and improvement of Pacific Bone & Joint's websites.
When creating or revising website content, we endeavor to consider:
- keyboard navigation;
- mobile usability;
- screen-reader compatibility;
- text contrast;
- font sizing;
- alternative text;
- heading structure;
- form labeling;
- captioning;
- descriptive links; and
- clear, understandable language.
Our websites are continually updated, and accessibility improvements may be made as part of those updates.
13. Getting Information Another Way
You do not need to use our website to access our practice or obtain information about our services.
If you cannot access information on our website, please contact Pacific Bone & Joint.
Depending on your needs, our staff may be able to:
- explain information by telephone;
- assist you with scheduling;
- provide information during an appointment;
- send information in another available format; or
- help you complete a task that would otherwise be performed through the website.
You do not need to explain or prove a disability in order to tell us that a particular website feature is difficult for you to use.
14. Reporting an Accessibility Problem
We welcome feedback about accessibility.
If you experience difficulty accessing any portion of our website, please tell us.
Information that can help us investigate includes:
- the webpage or URL where you experienced the problem;
- what you were trying to do;
- what happened instead;
- the device or browser you were using; and
- if applicable, the assistive technology you were using.
You are not required to provide all of this information, but additional details may help us reproduce and correct the problem.
15. Our Response
When an accessibility concern is reported, Pacific Bone & Joint will make reasonable efforts to:
- understand the problem;
- provide the requested information or service through another reasonable method when necessary;
- correct accessibility barriers that we control when reasonably possible; and
- incorporate lessons from reported issues into future website improvements.
We cannot guarantee that every technical issue can be corrected immediately, particularly when an issue involves a third-party platform, but we will endeavor to provide an alternative means of access.
16. Browser and Device Accessibility Features
Modern browsers, operating systems, smartphones, and tablets provide built-in accessibility features that may help improve website usability.
Depending on your device, these may include:
- browser zoom;
- larger text settings;
- high-contrast settings;
- screen readers;
- voice control;
- speech recognition;
- keyboard navigation;
- reduced-motion settings; and
- other accessibility options.
These tools are controlled by your browser, operating system, or device manufacturer rather than Pacific Bone & Joint.
17. Ongoing Improvement
Technology and accessibility standards continue to evolve.
Pacific Bone & Joint periodically reviews its websites and may update:
- website design;
- navigation;
- patient forms;
- educational materials;
- images;
- videos;
- downloadable documents; and
- third-party integrations
to improve usability and accessibility.
We welcome feedback from patients and website visitors because real-world experiences often identify barriers that automated website testing does not detect.
