Orthopedic Care for West O‘ahu

Orthopedic Care for Patients in West O‘ahu, Hawai‘i

West O‘ahu is one of the fastest-growing parts of the state, from Kapolei, Makakilo, and Ko Olina to ‘Ewa Beach and Ocean Pointe, and out along the Wai‘anae Coast. For years, many residents drove into town for specialty care. For orthopedics, our Waipahu/Kunia clinic is usually 15 to 25 minutes from Kapolei and ‘Ewa Beach.

West O‘ahu patients include construction and industrial workers, resort and hospitality staff, military families, weekend athletes, and kūpuna managing arthritis. The Waipahu/Kunia clinic offers orthopedic evaluation, X-ray and ultrasound, PB&J Physical Therapy, walk-in care for new injuries, workers’ compensation care, and surgical planning when surgery is needed.

Complete Orthopedic Care

Orthopedic care in one coordinated system

From diagnosis and physical therapy to injections, advanced procedures, surgery, and recovery. Not every orthopedic problem needs surgery, and Pacific Bone & Joint is set up to move you through the right level of care instead of pushing everyone toward one treatment.

  1. 1EvaluationA focused history and exam to find the source of the problem, not just the location of the pain.
  2. 2ImagingX-ray and diagnostic ultrasound are available in the office, so most problems can be imaged during the visit. MRI is arranged when it will change the plan.
  3. 3Physical therapyPB&J Physical Therapy works inside our Honolulu and Waipahu/Kunia clinics.
  4. 4InjectionsCorticosteroid and other injections, with ultrasound guidance when accuracy matters, and PRP or BMAC for selected patients.
  5. 5Office proceduresUltrasound-guided carpal tunnel release and trigger finger release, with local anesthesia and no hospital stay for most patients.
  6. 6SurgeryArthroscopy, ACL and meniscus surgery, cartilage restoration, fracture care, and hip and knee replacement, including revision.
  7. 7RecoveryPost-operative protocols, bracing, and follow-up coordinated by the same team that planned your care.

Who will I see?

Pacific Bone & Joint is a team-based orthopedic practice. Depending on the reason for your visit, your care may involve an orthopedic surgeon, a physician assistant, a physical therapist, imaging staff, or another member of the orthopedic team. Surgical decisions and operations are handled by the surgeon. Other parts of your evaluation, rehabilitation, follow-up, injections, and recovery may involve other clinicians.

Common Conditions We Treat

What brings West O‘ahu patients to us

Work injuries

Hand, wrist, shoulder, and knee injuries in construction, industrial, warehouse, and hotel work. Workers’ compensation is accepted.

Wrist, hand, and finger fractures

From falls and tools, with casting, splinting, or surgery depending on the break.

Hip and knee arthritis

Robotic-assisted partial and total joint replacement, with rehab close to home in Kunia.

Sports injuries

ACL and meniscus tears and ankle sprains in league and weekend athletes.

Shoulder pain

Rotator cuff tendinopathy, frozen shoulder, and arthritis. Most of it is treated without surgery.

Bone health

Fractures from simple falls in kūpuna, with osteoporosis evaluation and treatment.

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation

Orthopedics and physical therapy, coordinated

Many orthopedic conditions improve without surgery. PB&J Physical Therapy works inside our Honolulu and Waipahu/Kunia clinics, so you can move from diagnosis to rehabilitation with one coordinated plan, and your therapist and orthopedic provider can talk about your progress.

You do not need to be a surgical patient to do therapy with us, and Hawai‘i allows direct access to physical therapy without a physician referral (some plans still require one for coverage). Not every patient needs therapy; it is recommended when it fits the problem.

Patient Reviews

What patients say

4.9 average across 504 ratings on 8 review sites

“So glad I did my knee replacement with Dr. Morton — there is no more arthritis pain. Physical therapy is so important, and I can’t stress that enough. Bryson and Chelsea work side by side with Dr. Morton, so if there’s a challenge they can talk right there. They really do hands-on work and watch so I can’t cheat.”

— Mary P.· Google review

“Dr. Morton and his staff have been awesome. The robotic knee surgery went perfectly. His support staff Kelcie is kind and efficient, and the PTs Chelsea and Bryson have been the most beneficial to recovery!”

Common Questions

Questions from West O‘ahu patients

Do I have to drive into Honolulu for orthopedic care?+

Usually not. Evaluation, X-ray and ultrasound, injections, physical therapy, and most follow-up take place at the Waipahu/Kunia clinic. Surgery takes place at an O‘ahu surgical facility chosen for the procedure.

I was hurt on the job. What should I bring?+

Your date of injury, your employer’s name and contact, confirmation that you reported the injury, and the workers’ compensation carrier, claim number, and adjuster contact if one has been assigned. Wiki Wiki Orthopedics at the Waipahu/Kunia clinic accepts walk-ins for new injuries.

Is the Wai‘anae Coast too far for regular visits?+

It is usually a 30- to 45-minute drive. When possible, we try to group your appointments, such as an orthopedic visit and a physical therapy session on the same day, to cut down on trips.

Do you offer joint replacement for West O‘ahu patients?+

Yes. Robotic-assisted knee replacement is performed at The Queen’s Medical Center or Adventist Health Castle, and robotic hip replacement at Hilo Community Surgery Center on Hawai‘i Island. Pre-operative visits, follow-up, and physical therapy can stay at the Waipahu/Kunia clinic.

Do you accept QUEST plans?+

QUEST, AlohaCare, and Ohana Medicare plans require a referral or prior authorization before the visit. We are in network with many other Hawai‘i plans, including HMSA PPO, HMSA Medicare Advantage, and Medicare.

Can I get physical therapy without seeing a doctor first?+

Yes. Hawai‘i allows direct access to physical therapy, although some insurance plans still require a referral for coverage. If your therapist thinks you need an orthopedic evaluation, it is available in the same practice.
